Two days orientation on “GESI mainstreaming and Gender Responsive Budget” organized by Provincial Training Center for Gender focal persons and other government officials in Province no. 1. Altogether 20 participants i.e. 11 female and 9 male officials ( 12 Brahmin/Chhetri, 4 Janajatis and 4 from Madhesi communities) from different government line agencies participated in the orientation.
The program was inaugurated by honorable Minister Jeevan Ghimire, Ministry of Social Development and emphasized on internalization of Gender Equality and Social inclusion in every sphere of our person life as well as in government program and policies. He reiterated the commitment of provincial government to take adequate measures to promote gender equality and social inclusion.

Jasmaya Gajamer, Honorable Minister of State for Social Development of Province emphasized on the importance of GESI Mainstreaming and Gender Responsive Budget for promoting women’s rights.
The program mainly include the thematic sessions for Conceptual Clarity on Gender and Social Inclusion, National Legislative Framework on Gender and Social Inclusion, International Human Rights Mechanism relating to GESI mainstreaming and Sustainable Development Goal with special focus on Gender Equality, Provincial level GESI related policies, programs and budget, Gender responsive planning budget and Role of Gender Focal person. The orientation session was jointly facilitated by Social development Ministry and PLGSP.

Participants found the orientation program fruitful and helped in having better conceptual clarity regarding GESI and knowledge of GESI integration in program planning and budgeting process. The participants expressed the workshop has helped them in having more clarity as well as the importance on role of GESI focal points. The participants suggested to give more emphasis on practical session in addition to theoretical classes on GESI mainstreaming throughout planning process and GRB and also stressed about the need of sensitizing other officials who are directly involved in planning and budgeting. The orientation expected to help in ensuring GESI mainstreaming in provincial and local government for more GESI sensitive and inclusive program, budget and services.
Decisions/Recommendation came from the workshop:
- Social Development Ministry of Provincial Government will procced with the formulation of GESI Policy Gender Focal Persons will take steps to ensure annual action plan developed in the program will be implemented in their respective offices to mainstream GESI
- Provincial Training Center will develop post training monitoring framework to ensure that progress is documented and necessary follow-up is carried out
- All resource materials disseminated to participants electronically.
